Dee Lexandra PhD, MSW, LCSW, CAP, SAP

Counseling/Consulting/Coaching

You have the power to change your life by searching for answers as you have done here. Sometimes life can be overwhelming, feel unfair, and hopeless with mounting despair.

At times like this, I can offer an empathetic, non-judgmental ear and help you to reconnect you to your whole self, and uncover your potential and connect with your creative spirit.

For the past 28 years, I have provided behavioral health services to a diverse population. My education includes a PhD in Family Therapy, Masters in Clinical Social Work, License in Clinical Social Work, and I am a Florida Board Certified Addiction Professional (CAP) and DOT Substance Abuse Professional (SAP).

Dr. Lexandra's Treatment Focus

My treatment focus is to help individuals heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths by focusing on solution-focused problem solving support.  By focusing on present relationships, with others and yourself; addictions and past traumas heal, and tools for life stage changes lead you to the life you deserve.

You will experience a neutral safe space, with me listening to your concerns and providing direct feedback. Clear, concise feedback, allows you to identify how to change your negative patterns and break the cycle of despair! By learning new interpersonal effectiveness skills, and applying them in-between sessions, you will increase your self-awareness and self-esteem.

Areas of Specialization: Addiction (Anxiety, Depression), Relationships (Significant Other, Work, Marital and Family Issues, Divorce, Self Esteem), Trauma and PTSD, and Life Stage Changes.

Confidentiality and Trust

You may wonder, "What if you tell me something that you would not want anyone else to know?"

There are Federal Laws (HIPAA) and state regulations governed by the Florida Board where I hold my license to practice. This means that I am responsible by law to protect your confidentiality and require   your written permission to release any information. Exceptions to this include:

  • If you discuss intent to harm yourself or others.
  • Incidents of suspected child abuse and neglect which are mandatory to report to the appropriate State or Local authorities.

Treatment

Individual Therapy

  • This is an individual session where the therapist and client meet exclusively. Everyone reaches crossroads at times in their life brought on by transitions resulting in stress and losses.
  • Even when you are experiencing relationship conflicts, and your partner is not interested in couple therapy, focusing on change in how you relate to others can facilitate positive change in your relationship. I  can help with these types of problems:
  • Alcohol and Drug Addiction
  • Depression and Anxiety
  • Relationships
  • Divorce
  • Bereavement
  • Day to Day Life Stress
  • Parenting
  • Chronic Mental Issues
  • PTSD
  • Setting Life Goals
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness
  • Communication
  • Anger Management

Family Therapy

  • In the interest of helping a family through difficult transitions, this type of therapy includes all family members at each session with the therapist. Every family relationship speaks a unique language that "outsiders" may not understand.
  • When some family members are unable or unwilling to attend, family therapy is still effective. The missing family member is included by the therapist with questions directed to other family members.
  • By respecting the uniqueness of your family, I am able to encourage growth, understanding, and communication.
  • Family sessions are especially helpful with issues related to children of all ages. Specifically:
  • Divorce
  • Aging parents
  • Problems with school
  • Peer pressures
  • Fears of separation

Couple/Marital Therapy

  • Whether you are in a heterosexual or GLBT relationship, being a united couple requires the merging of two separate individuals and families.
  • Couple counseling offers an opportunity to remember and strengthen what began your relationship and to help make the necessary adjustments to minimize your differences. If you are uncertain about whether you are compatible, the objective view of the therapist can help the relationship find a voice.
  • I  help couples with these types of problems:
  • Alcohol and Drug Addiction
  • Depression and Anxiety
  • Intimacy in Relationships
  • Divorce/Separation
  • Changing Roles in Relationships
  • Day to Day Life Stress
  • Parenting
  • Chronic Mental Health Issues
  • Health Issues

The Benefits of Video/Telemental Health

"Access to a mental health services provider can be life-changing. While benefits of virtual mental health services differ from patient to patient, they can include: ease, convenience, privacy, access and increased choice and options. The services they need fit into their lifestyle, rather than the other way around."
